Somersfield Academy alumni offer scholarships


A charity golf tournament resulted in a $7,000 scholarship being awarded to student Shiloh Stevens. Somersfield Academy Alumni.

A spokesperson said, “Beta Dice, a network focused on enhancing social development opportunities on the island and run by alumni of Somersfield Academy, awarded its second scholarship through funds raised at its annual golf fundraiser held at the St Regis Golf Course in Bermuda.

“The network, run by Marquis and Jai Burgess, Kareem Crary and family member Zahn Richardson, had a total of 19 teams participate, reflecting the enthusiasm of last year’s event. Notable alumni and volunteers played a key role in the organization and execution.”

Ricky Teterna, Kareem Crary, Shiloh Stevens, Zahn Richardson, Marquis Burgess, Alison Kempe and Charlie Judd:

“Jana Swenson-Roberts, Elin Pitcher, the O’Shaughnessy family, Cal Richardson, Casey Burgess and Dion Bell deserve special recognition for their dedication and efforts.

“The overall winner of the tournament was the DreamWorks team, consisting of Christian Petty, Michael Barritt, Julian Papadopoulo [alumni]and Marquis Burgess [alumni],

“Funds raised, a total of $7,000, will be allocated towards a Somersfield Academy bursary for Shiloh Stevens at the start of the 2024/25 school year. Shiloh, who excels both academically and athletically, is a promising young student who is transferring from public school to Somersfield Academy.”

“The school has contributed a huge part to what I have achieved, and I would like to help them have a positive influence on young Bermudians,” event organiser Jay Burgess said.

Head of Admissions Alison Kempe said, “We are delighted to welcome Shiloh Stevens to Somersfield Academy. Her strong academic and athletic background makes her a perfect fit for our school. The support of our alumni through the Betta Dees Golf fundraiser is making this possible, and we are grateful for their commitment.”

The spokesperson added, “The Betta Days Golf fundraiser reflects the spirit of giving and community engagement that characterizes Somersfield Academy’s enduring commitment to producing socially conscious independent thinkers.
