The Narendra Modi-led central government on Wednesday formed various cabinets. These saw the highest representation of BJP allies for the first time since 2014. The cabinet also includes Union ministers from NDA allies like BJP, Janata Dal (U), Telugu Desam Party, Janata Dal (S), BJP and Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas).
The NDA’s polling numbers are clear, with the Congress representing its ally in the election where the BJP failed to cross the majority mark of 272 on its own.
According to the official release, the Cabinet Committee on Security comprises Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar. Apart from Prime Minister Modi, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs comprises Rajnath Singh, Amit Shah, Jaishankar, Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari, Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Heavy Industries and Steel Minister HD Kumaraswamy. Other members of the committee are Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal, Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and Panchayati Raj and Fisheries Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh.
The Cabinet Committee on Political Affairs comprises PM Modi, Rajnath Singh, Amit Shah, Gadkari, Goyal, Health Minister J.P. Nadda, Civil Industries Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi, Ports and Shipping Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Environment Minister Bhupendra Yadav, Women and Child Development Minister Annapurna Devi, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju and Coal Minister G Kishan Reddy.
The Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Affairs comprises Rajnath Singh, Amit Shah, Nadda, Rajnath Singh, Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu, Rijiju, Social Justice Minister Radhakrishnan, Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram and Jal Shakti Minister CR Patel. Special invitees to the committee are Union Minister of State for Law (Independent Charge) Arjun Ram Meghwal and Minister of State for Law L Murugan.
Like the past few years, the Cabinet Appointments Committee has only two members – Prime Minister Modi and Amit Shah.
The Cabinet Committee on Investment and Growth comprises Prime Minister Modi, Rajnath Singh, Shah, Gadkari, Goyal, Consumer Affairs Minister Prahlad Joshi, Textiles Minister Giriraj Singh, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri and Food and Consumer Industries Minister Chirag Samman.
Special invitees in the committee are Minister of State Rao Indrajit Singh and Ayush Minister Pratap Rao Jadhav. Amit Shah, Gadkari, Goyal and Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal are members of the Cabinet Committee on Housing. Union Minister of State for Personnel and Prime Minister’s Office Jitendra Singh is a special invitee member in the committee.
The Cabinet Committee on Skills, Employment and Household comprises the Prime Minister, Rajnath Singh, Amit Shah, Gadkari, Vaishnav, Pradhan, Yadav, Puri, Culture Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat and Employment Minister Mansukh Mandaviya. Minister of State for Skill Development Jayant Chaudhary is a special invitee member.
