A large number of farmers from Haryana, Punjab and other states participated in the Mahapanchayat organized under the aegis of Bharatiya Kisan Naujwan Union.

A farmer leader said that in the Kisan Mahapanchayat held at Uchana in Haryana’s Jind district on Sunday, it was decided not to support or oppose any party in the elections.

A large number of farmers from Haryana, Punjab and other states attended the Mahapanchayat organized under the aegis of Bhartiya Kisan Naujwan Union. Farmer leaders like Jagjit Singh Dallewal, Shravan Singh Pandher and Abhimanyu Kohad participated in it.

Giving information about the decision taken in the Mahapanchayat, Dallewal said, “We (farmers’ movement) have nothing to do with the elections. Our aim is to strengthen the movement. We will neither help nor oppose anyone in the elections. To strengthen our movement, we will make people aware of the government’s failures and the decisions taken against the farmers.”

He said, “The next Mahapanchayat will be held on September 22 in Pipli, Kurukshetra. The demands for which we are agitating are not just of Punjab, Haryana, but of the farmers of the entire country. Mahapanchayats are being held in every corner of the country to connect the entire country with this movement.”

Dallewal said the way the government prevented farmers from attending the Kisan Mahapanchayat was “extremely shameful and condemnable.” “Cement barriers were erected at several places to prevent farmers from gathering. Gurdwara managers were even told not to cook food for them,” he alleged.

Farmer leader Abhimanyu Kohad said, “We do not appeal to vote for any political party, but we will definitely say that when you go to vote, remember the atrocities committed on farmers and laborers in the last ten years.”

Sommo Festival hopes to keep the dancing going in September

Organizers hope to hold the Sommo Festival again in September after a second successful year of music and culinary performances in Cavendish, P.E.I.

About 20,000 people attended Friday night, more than the one-day crowd at the Cavendish Beach Music Festival in July, said festival operations director Taylor Jack. More than 16,000 tickets were sold for Saturday.

“We want to try and keep it around September,” Jack said. “We want to work closely with the municipality. We want to work closely with the retailers, the cottage owners, everybody. I think it would work to continue the season longer than we can afford.”

Last year, the Sommo Festival was held in July, immediately following the Cavendish Beach Music Festival, which has been held for the past 15 years.

Jack said that other than the traffic — some said it took about two hours to get out of the area — the festivities went smoothly this weekend.

“I think everybody that came was having a great time. You know, there were a few lines here and there, but nobody was bothered by it. Everybody was smiling. I think overall the weather was great. … Nobody was complaining.”

Thousands attend Sommo music festival in Cavendish

Forty thousand people are attending the Sommo Festival on Prince Edward Island this weekend, featuring artists such as Greta Van Fleet and The Beaches.

More than 30 events took place over the two days, including headline performances by Noah Kahan on Friday and Greta Van Fleet on Saturday.

“It was a really fun time,” said Emily Globe, who was there both days. “We were in the front row most of the night. Good crowd, good music.”

RCMP said four people were arrested for driving under the influence over the weekend and five others were charged with driving under the influence. They said traffic cleared in just an hour Saturday night, down from more than two hours on Friday when traffic was more congested.

America is tying Ukraine’s hands and engaging it in war

HOpes Ran On September 13 there is a high chance that Ukraine may finally get permission to use British and French Storm Shadows/Skull Cruise missiles could be used against targets inside Russia. Joe Biden and UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer held talks for two hours at the White House, and many believed the US president would eventually give his permission – which is believed to be needed, as the missiles can get targeting information from US satellites and other sources to evade Russian defences, and some of them could have US components.

The announcement comes after the Supreme Court refused to interfere with the National Medical Commission’s decision to postpone NEET SS 2024. (Representative/PTI photo)

Applicants are advised to check the NBEMS website for the final schedule of NEET SS 2024, which will be published in the information bulletin at natboard.edu.in.

The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) has announced the tentative exam dates for the next National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Super Speciality or NEET SS exam. As per the schedule, the exam will be held on March 29 and 30. The official notice released by the board states, “The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) will conduct NEET-SS 2024 on March 29 and 30, 2025 at various exam centres across the country.”

Applicants are advised to visit the NBEMS website from time to time for the final schedule of the examination, which will be published in the Information Bulletin for NEET-SS 2024 on the official website natboard.edu.in, the official notice said.

The announcement comes after the Supreme Court refused to interfere with the National Medical Commission’s decision to postpone NEET SS 2024. The court had on August 14 asked the commission to release the exam schedule within a month and conduct the exam by January 2025,

According to NMC, the delay in admission to MD, MS and DMB courses through NEET PG exam in the academic session 2021 is the main reason for postponing the exam. Due to COVID-19, the admission process for the batch that year was conducted between January 2022 to May 2022, delaying the start of the new academic session. The course will now be completed in January 2025. Therefore, the commission had decided to postpone NEET-SS 2024 to accommodate these students.

The NMC also said that at least 40 per cent of the students taking the NEET-SS exam are from the current batch. Students of the 2021 batch who will complete their course by January 2025 will not be able to appear for the exam if it is held this year.

The exams are usually conducted in two shifts – morning shift and afternoon shift. The first shift is conducted from 9 AM to 11:30 AM while the second shift is conducted from 2 PM to 4:30 PM. The exams will be conducted at several exam centers across the country.

Why hasn’t Israel lost Europe yet?

PRide Parade Amsterdam is the ultimate celebration of European tolerance. The streets and canals are lined with short-haired women, men in bondage gear and a variety of rainbow flags that only an expert in gender heraldry could decipher. But one flag was not welcome at this summer’s parade: Israel’s. An organizing committee tried to ban it. The ban was lifted after the mayor objected, yet a Jewish gay group that carried a flag at a Pride march on July 20 was booed by Palestinian flag-bearers until it gave in.

Fiction list for the 2024 National Book Awards

The final and most closely watched list for the National Book Awards was announced this morning: Ten nominees in fiction, James However, this is the main topic Martyr, all foursand recently released Srijan Lake Everybody’s getting a lot of attention. I guess James is the clear frontrunner. Perhaps the biggest surprise was McSweeney’s title, ‘Yer Dead’ by Sam Sachsmaking the list. I looked around to see if they’ve ever had a title on the list before, and while I may have missed something, I don’t think they have. I admit, McSweeney’s was blindfolded, so this really impressed me.

How historical fiction redefined the literary genre

Central data point This article on the rise of historical fiction It is this: between 1950 and 1980, “about” half of the novels that won the award were contemporary novels. More recently, only 3 of the last 15 winners of these awards were contemporary. So a 30% increase from 50%. Is that fair or does it seem like it doesn’t meet the threshold of “redefining the literary canon?” Shakespeare mostly set his plays in the historical world. Most classical Greek literature was about events hundreds of years ago. Maybe the 1950s period was unusually preoccupied, if you can call it a 20% preference, with the present, coming out of World War II. It also makes sense to me that works of literature would be mostly set in the not now, because everything that has ever happened is also set there.

‘Good Omens’: Production on Neil Gaiman’s Amazon drama halted

auspicious omenBoth the show and the book are crown jewels in the Gaiman-verse. And so the news that season three of the show has come to a close amid growing allegations against Gaiman is a sign that not only is this story not ending, but it continues to grow. This Deadline piece Notes that “changes in production” are being discussed so it can be rebooted. Remove Gaiman’s name, since he’s being given whatever credit for this? Some kind of PR campaign? This series has really turned into a Sheen-Tennant showcase more than a Gaiman project (we’re way ahead of the events in the book at this point), so maybe there’s enough non-Gaiman here to keep the series going.

The Nickel Boys Trailer Debut

I think The Nickel Boys is Whitehead’s most successful novel and so I’m very curious to see what a screen adaptation of this looks like. Trailer That is: very interesting choice to shoot from the characters’ point of view, and I wish they hadn’t done it. It could really work, but it could also fail and/or distract from the story. (Also, did we really need to remove the definite article from the book’s title? Is anyone eyeing Sean Fanning?). I hope I’m wrong, and this gets more done rather than less done. As one of my ten picks for the best books of the 21st century, The Nickel Boys Everything needed to be great already exists.
